Alexander Wilson photographed and recorded the changing face of Dundee from the 1870s to 1905 and amassed a huge collection of images of the city and surrounding areas.

In the years that have followed, Dundee has undergone major changes and redevelopment which has seen many elements of the city disappear forever.

Using Google Maps, the staff of Dundee City Archives have plotted many of the locations of Alexander Wilson's photographs, taken from Photopolis, to help the viewer picture the scene in the Victorian and Edwardian era to today's landscape. The photographs can be viewed on Google Maps.
