Cottages, Wormit. Whitewashed cottages and children dresed for work and play are featured in this picture. Wormit evolved as the newest of the south bank settlements at the junction of the Tayport branch line and the main line from Tay Bridge.

Wormit owes its existence to the railway which put it within easy commuter distance of Dundee.

The village of Rait stands in the mouth of a small glen almost halfway between Perth and Dundee. The castle of Rait is now extinct. The burn to the foreground of the picture runs through the village effectively dividing the hamlet into two halves.
