Subscribers to the cost of the statute (which cost £3,500 the money being raised in one day) received a ticket of admission to one of the platforms near the statue to see the unveiling.

Photograph shows poster advertising Barnum & Bailey Show. Caledonian Railway operated from West Station. A banner across the street stated "Agriculture" with a cycle shop on the right hand side.

Guard of Honour for Royal Visit by Dundee Highland Volunteer Battalion The Black Watch (Royal Highlanders). Men wishing to be part of the Guard send names to Orderly Room. Guard will be on duty at Victoria Hospital.

Also show M S Mart - (no 79) Tobacco & Fancy Goods With a group of men standing in front of the shop and a boy with a basket on his head. Also a policeman walking in the road (shows the type of uniform worn at that time). The Dundee City Police Sports day in 1899 - had to be cancelled due to the Royal Visit.

The statue was unveiled by the Duke of Connaught after he opened the Victoria Hospital for Incurables. There was a civic lunch at the Albert Institute before the Duke left by train at 4.15pm.

Durrant, 4 Castle Street Edinburgh advertising that it will send fitters to the Queens Hotel (by appointment) for evening gowns, dinner and reception gowns for those wishing to celebrate the royal visit.
